Guidelines for maintenance and expansion

The KanAm Grund Group's guideline for maintenance and expansion:
A key to sustainable and future-oriented real estate management

As an international fund and asset manager with a real estate portfolio of around EUR 7 billion in assets under management, we regularly review the environmental, health and social standards of our properties and consistently develop them further. A key objective of the KanAm Grund Group's sustainability strategy is to optimize ESG standards.

As part of these efforts, we have developed a comprehensive guideline for maintenance and expansion that is intended to help our tenants, architects and contractors make sustainable decisions and optimizations throughout the entire life cycle of the properties:

When awarding construction and renovation contracts, we take both economic and ecological criteria into account.

  • Ecological materials and components that can be separated by type are preferred.
  • The use of products and materials that are harmful to the environment and health is to be gradually reduced or completely avoided.
  • The aim is to gradually reduce or completely avoid the use of products and materials that are harmful to the environment and health. We prefer to use ecological materials and components that can be separated by type. With each individual measure, we achieve a gradual reduction in CO2 emissions until it is fully implemented.

Manuel Hein, Head of ESG Strategy at the KanAm Grund Group, emphasizes the importance of taking a holistic view of the real estate life cycle. He explains that focusing solely on the operation of real estate and the associated CO2 emissions is an incomplete picture. The KanAm Grund Group's guideline therefore covers the entire real estate value chain, including construction, transportation and demolition.

By including reusable or already recycled components in our policy, we are making a concrete contribution to achieving the environmental goal defined by the EU taxonomy of “moving towards a circular economy”.This practice supports the efficient use of resources and promotes circular processes within our industry, reducing waste and extending the life of products.

We want to play an active role in making a sustainable and resource-efficient economy, as envisaged by the EU Taxonomy, a reality.
